Lines are Beautiful – A Photographic Celebration of Women over 50

[custom_headline type=”left, center, right” level=”h2″ looks_like=”h3″ accent=”true”] Lines are BEAUTIFUL [/custom_headline]is my personal project for 2015.  My desire is to provide a FREE portrait session for any woman over 50 years old. That is the sole requirement, that you be over 50.  Why am I doing this?  Have you ever heard the song by Brandi Carlile – The Story?  The first lines of the song are:

[blockquote cite=”Brandi Carlie” type=”left, center, right”]All of these lines across my face
Tell you the story of who I am
So many stories of where I’ve been
And how I got to where I am[/blockquote]

Even though more mature woman are visible today than they ever have been before, it still isn’t enough.  Beauty is not reserved only for the young and thin and those that reverie beauty magazines.

We are wise, wonderful, strong and beautiful.  We’ve lived, we’ve learned, we’ve had challenges and joys, pain and pleasure.  We have lines on our face and we can be proud of that fact and celebrate it.

We deserve to be seen and it is essential that we exist in photos.

[custom_headline type=”left, center, right” level=”h2″ looks_like=”h3″ accent=”true”] Join me.  Be Seen.  Celebrate You. [/custom_headline]

Chesters New Home Away from Oakland Animal Services – Bay Area Pet Portraits

For the past few years I’ve been working with the Friends of Oakland Animal Services to photograph adoption stories for their yearly calendar.  This year I traveled into SF to meet Chester.  An extremely sweet guy who, after a very long and sad stay in the Oakland shelter, finally has a great new home.

Chester is a goofy mastiff mix adolescent who first came to us under protective custody nearly four years ago. Chester basically grew up at the shelter and in foster while the DA investigated and prosecuted his owner for neglect. It was years before we were allowed to make him available for adoption. Last fall, a wonderful couple in San Francisco saw an online video of Chesters New Home and fell in love. Meeting Chester sealed the deal, and he’s been a (big!) bundle of love for them ever since.

Welcoming Home the Brand New Puppy for Pet Portraits in Oakland

I first met Annie and Bernard in the summer of 2013 for a portrait session of their little cutie, Munji .  At the time Munji was suffering from advanced cancer, but was doing really great.  We had a second session in April of last year when Munji got a new little puppy brother, MacGyver to play with.  Again Munji was doing really well, but unfortunately, that ended over the summer when she lost her battle with cancer.

When Annie contacted me in October to let me know they were bringing home a new puppy right before Christmas and could I come on his first day with them and create some portraits, I wish thrilled.  Afterall, who doesn’t want to play with an absolutely adorable 8 week old Golden Retriever puppy?

As expected the cuteness factor was through the roof.  Sawyer is soooooo cute it was hard for me to pick up the camera and actually shoot; I was so smitten I just wanted to play!

I hope you enjoy this cutie as much as I did.

The 4th Year of Pet Portraits with Wyatt the Bloodhound

I have had the Pet Portraits pleasure of photographing Wyatt the Bloodhound for 4 years in row now! He is an absolute sweetheart of dog and I look forward to his session each year and hanging out with his owner, Josephine.

Wyatt Bloodhound Portraits

In the past we had our sessions on the beach twice and once at the UC Berkeley campus, so this year we choose a more urban backdrop and met along the Embarcadero in San Francisco. We started off near the Cupid’s Span. The structure is more commonly known as the “bow and arrow” and located in Rincon Park. It was commissioned by Donald and Doris Fisher (founders of Gap, Inc.) and donated to the City of San Francisco. It’s a really cool sculpture and made for a great backdrop to photograph Wyatt against.

From there we walked down to Pier 14 and all the way down the pier were there are stunning views of the Bay Bridge and the Ferry Building. Wyatt really liked this part as he sniffed along the pier finding the people fishing to be especially interesting!

As the sun was rapidly setting we headed down to Pier 5. We wanted to get some sunset pics with the bay in the background and the cool wooden planks of Pier 5 in the foreground. Wyatt is a trooper, he went along with our whole program, ate all the treats I handed out, gave loads of sloppy kisses and was the delight to photograph that he always is.

If you live in or around Menlo Park and need a dog walker, I highly recommend getting in touch with Josephine and hanging out with Wyatt and her pack!  Call Josephine.
