Harry’s 11th Birthday…almost.

Today I had planned to buy Harry a new toy and bake him a doggie birthday cake to celebrate his 11th birthday.  Of course, that was not meant to be as he succumbed to his cancer 13 days ago. This photo was taken in Fall 2009.  We were walking near the Berkeley estuary and I got the idea to have Harry pose on the railroad tracks.  So

RIP – Harry

As a pet photographer I've written a few posts saying goodbye to past clients and wishing them well on their journey. Today it is time to do that again, only now it is my dog I'm wishing well. Harry lost his battle against a very aggressive form a cancer last night, just two weeks shy of his 11th birthday. Harry was a truly amazing dog,

Siblings in San Ramon Family Photography

This fall I expanded my photography service offering to include children, so I'm now specializing in pets and kids.  What is more fitting than to have a former pet client of mine hire me to photograph her two kids, Jack and Rachel?  We met at a very cool park in San Ramon, Central Park, on another beautiful and sunny Bay Area day.  This is the kind of

How dogs help us manage pain

For the past two years I've been struggling with knee issues.  Not great for someone who regularly is on their knees photographing pets. Today while I was waiting to see my orthopedist (might need another arthroscopic surgery) I spotted a sign on the wall about how dogs are used for pain management.  This intrigued me as I have two dogs and it is time to make them earn their kibble (just kidding,

Emeryville, from Pixar to the Marina photographing dogs – part 2

In part 1 of the blog about Emeryville we traveled to Pixar, the Town hall and the community gardens.  Now we head off to the marina.  What was that?  You didn't know Emeryville has a marina and even a waterfront park!  They do, even some good restaurants like Trader Vic's (not to be confused with the Traders Joe's around the corner) and Chevy's.  At the end of

Senior Dog Portrait Photography in Jack London Square

You may recognize this cutie from other posts.  This is Buddy, one of my first clients and admittedly one of my favorites.  Partly because he is just a really special dog with a great chill personality and partly because he reminds me of our Harry.  Buddy and Harry look nothing alike, but they share a similar quality, those rare and special dogs with a very close connectedness to their humans and

Another Cute Kitty Portrait Session in the Bay Area

Saturday morning found me in Hayward photographing these two cute kitties, Lil'Guy, who isn't that little, and Jimmy, who is well.....Jimmy.  In my experience cats rarely feel like participating in a photo shoot, but these two were good sports.   They showed me some of their favorite spots on the couch and then took me outside to show me how much they love their yard.  Thanks Catherine for having me

Beautiful Lab in Balboa Park San Diego

I was on vacation the week before Christmas in beautiful, sunny San Diego when I had the chance to do a little traveling pet photography.  I had a session in Balboa Park with our good friend Tena and her amazing dog, Skylar.  Skylar is an amazingly well trained and very, very sweet beautiful lab who, it is clear, adores her human.  The feelings are mutual as is obvious when

Meet Charlie and Peanut

Last weekend I had another Smile for a Cure session and met Charlie and Peanut, two senior red daschunds with their noses to ground sniffing for treats.  They didn't sit still much, well actually, they barely stopped moving for more than 5 seconds so they kept me on my toes!  Nothing daunted I followed them around with my Canon close to the ground and myself
